It's hard to fathom what would make someone go on a spree of harming and killing other human beings as just happened at Virginia Tech. It makes no sense.

I was sitting in the waiting room of our car repair shop with a few other people, seeing the haunted looks of shock in their eyes as we watched the news reports. Everyone here in Killeen is feeling it all over again, with memories rushing back from the 1991 Luby's massacre. A friend of ours lost her mother that day, and we drove down for the funeral. That day way back then I had the same thought. It's just...senseless. A waste. A huge aching sorrow in the hearts of families and in the heart of our nation.

My prayers and thoughts are with everyone who was affected by this tragedy, with the Virginia Tech students, and with the family of the gunman. Of all people, they will be the ones trying hardest to make sense of a totally senseless event.

I agree with you Carol. Isn't it odd - to this day if I see or hear of a Luby's I think about that day in Killeen.

your last paragraph about the killer's family is mature and heartfelt. its hard not to forget those that will be affected or associated in a bad way. they, too, will suffer some.
