A Legacy of Service

I thought for Veteran's Day I would post pictures of my favorite vets. Kevin's grandfather served in the Navy in WWII (wasn't he cute?); my Dad served in the Army in Vietnam (here he is with my mom, pinning on rank), and of course, my honey is currently in Iraq (my own soldier hunk). You men are all my heros and I love you and am so proud of you.

I HATE it When That Happens!!

Oh man, am I bummed. We got up early this morning to go to the Veteran's Cemetery with the Scouts, who were putting flags on all the graves. I got some awesome shots!! That is, I *would* have gotten some awesome shots, if my camera had only had the memory card inside! ARRRRRGH! I can't believe I did that. At least the flags are still there, so I can go back out later today and try again, even though the light won't be the same. Man. I am so bummed. :( Well, hopefully later I will get to post some good pics.

Happy Veteran's Day, everyone. Don't forget to thank a soldier or vet today if you can!

Crop 'till you Drop

This weekend there's a big Cyber Crop going on at www.123-scrap.com -- there are lots of awesome challenges, games, ideas, and prizes! It's the place to be this weekend!

Today is also the 231st Birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. Now THAT'S something to celebrate! Tomorrow being Veteran's Day, I hope we all take a moment to say "thank you" to someone who has served our country. I have several Veterans in my family that I will be calling to say thank you, and I love you. :)

My New "Pet" Frisky

I have the most wonderful little squirrel living in my back yard. He visits every day and I watch him from my big set of windows in my family room. I've affectionately dubbed him "Frisky" because of the energetic way he waves his big, bushy tail. I hope I can get a picture of him soon, but so far he is very suspicious of me. One day there was a smaller squirrel (I'm assuming a little girl squirrel) on the tree with him. She was standing still as a stone on the trunk of the tree, with Frisky on the exact opposite side of the trunk, and every time he would move to get around to her, she would likewise move to stay on the opposite side. His tail was waving and flicking enthusiastically the whole time, while she was being so still except for moving from side to side around the tree trunk in her persistent avoidance of him. It made me laugh to see them! Poor Frisky.

The End is in Sight

We're down to the last month of this deployment. Whew. It has been a long haul! There have been many things that were totally not what I expected, but I have learned so much from this past year.

I have mixed feelings about Kevin's homecoming...joy mixed with nervousness. There is so much to do to get ready! The house isn't even completely unpacked yet from our move, the garage is a mess, and the sprinkler system may not be installed before he gets home, either. But the main thing is that he will be HOME, no matter if the boxes are unpacked or not. I can give him his pillow back instead of hugging it at night, and hug him instead. :D And he will be home for Christmas, unlike last year. What a joyful celebration that will be! The kids and I painted a huge sheet with "Welcome Home, Daddy...You're Our Hero" to hang on the garage door. They are beside themselves with excitement! Caitlin has already insisted that we get a cake decorated to the hilt for the day he returns.

I have changed, and I know he has also, during this time apart. It will be wonderful re-discovering one another. :D
